Border measures regarding COVID19 was greatly relaxed since October 11th.

1. Visa
Visa exemption will be resumed and those from previously exempted countries will not need to apply for a visa.

2. Vaccination or PCR tests
All participants from abroad will need a vaccination certificate (3 doses).
There are certain requirements for this certificate, so please refer to the following for details.

Those who have not vaccinated 3 doses will be asked to submit a PCR negative test result certificate. The test must be taken within 72 hours of departure.

3. ERFS
Prescribed applications in the Entrants, Returnees Follow-up Systems (ERFS) are no longer required. The measure to limit the entry of foreign tourists to those on package tours will be lifted at the same time (meaning that you are free to book a hotel, train, etc. and to travel by yourself).

August 28, 2022

New border measures were issued and pre-departure PCR negative test result will no longer be neccessary for those who has vaccination certification for three times (as of September 7th). 
Visa application
Currently, all foreign nationals need to apply for a visa as a border control measures against COVID-19.
However, the organizing committtee is expecting that the measures will be gradually relaxed, and those from previously visa exempted countries will again be exempted. So we advice those from applicable countries to wait for a while. We will send mails and post an update as soon as new measures are issued.

June, 2022

As of June, quarantine regulation has been considerably relaxed. 
People entering from most countries in Europe and North America are no longer required self-quarantine upon entry to Japan.
(Please see the webpage of the Ministry of Health about the groupings of countries.)
Vaccination of three times and a negative PCR result within 72 hours prior to boarding are still required to both Japanese and non-Japanese. 
Please see the Ministry of Health webpage about the approved type of vaccines and the format of the certificate. 
Currently visa application is required to all non-Japanese people. Please ask the Japanese Embassy in your coutry for the application procedure.
